How much is he willing to give up for a real shot at fame? I have to say that I had a lot of trouble clicking with this book. That probably mostly has to do with the fact that this is a book number two and that I did not read book number one before picking this one up. Now, before you all scold me which I know you are mentally doing right now ; I must defend my actions.
I was told that this is a stand-alone book and that I would be fine not having read book one. Yes, things are explained-ish but I feel I needed more. I needed to witness the whole situation first hand and not just hear about it after the fact. Jake is the hero of this book.
He is a rancher and a budding country music musician. What I mean by that is yes, there is a romance and yes we do get to know Paige quite a bit, but I felt that the real focus of the book is Jake and where he is in his life, having to make some pretty serious decisions. I felt this was a slightly different sort of contemporary romance. But in this book, you get to know Paige but you follow Jake.
Is that making any sense lol? I found this to be an interesting way to write a contemporary romance. Almost fresh. And Jake is a good guy. I just wish he was going through his own crap and not just recycling the crap his brothers and family went through in the first book. From what I gather through this book, it seems that a lot of the major plot points from book one repeated themselves in this book just with different characters living through them.

Leah Braemel's intro into the Grady Legacy brings us strong and interesting characters that I have to admit I want to know much more about in the coming books.

There are several things going on in this story as it lays the ground work for the series and brings you the second chance love story of Ben and Allie. There's a few bad guys in the mix and as the secrets start to unravel Allie and Ben get closer. I liked how this story played out. Ben and Allie had a hard and painful break up but once Ben found out everything that happened to Allie during that time he sets out to win her back.
He never gives up and knows he has to do it slowly to gain her trust again. A hot mix of sizzling and sweet!! Great beginning to the series. I can't wait to see what happens next! Ben and his family think the whole claim is ridiculous and their title insurance company sends in Allie to investigate. Ben and Allie's first meeting after fifteen years is strained to say the least. I won't give anymore plot away but that's the synopsis on how this story starts.
Slow Ride Home
I am a sucker for western romances. I'm also a sucker for second chance love stories. I enjoyed both of the tropes here. What I didn't enjoy was the idea that back in high school a girl engaged in a threesome. I'm not a prude but it's hard for me to buy into it. The suspense of finding out if there was truly another heir was entertaining but I kind of thought my heroine was a slut. This tainted the book for me. I will admit that even though there was copious amounts of descriptive sex in this book that were hot, it still left me a little cold. I don't know if I'll read any more in this series yet.
Feb 14, Bette Stanek rated it liked it. I'm a sucker for second chances. Slow Ride Home, while lighter, isn't a total fluff story.
There's some family dynamics that will blow you away. The lengths to which some people will go to keep the family name and legacy untarnished is unbelievable.
This book is an easy read and the intrigue that is there is easily resolved with not a lot of drama. It is a pretty typical second chance story. Allie and Ben w I'm a sucker for second chances. Allie and Ben were high school sweethearts getting ready to go off to college together when they are ripped apart from one another.
Each is told a different story and each feels betrayed by the other. Fast forward 15 years, Allie is a lawyer for the title company that holds the title insurance company on the ranch that Ben has inherited after his father tragically died. There has been a claim made against the ranch and Allie has to get to the bottom of it. During the investigation they'll find out the truth of what happened 15 years ago, who was actually behind it all, and how they were manipulated.

This first book follows Ben who is fighting to save the ranch from some locals who claim another son exists and that they own part of the ranch. The bank has sent out a claims officer, who just happens to be Allie, Ben's first love who was kicked off the ranch by Ben's grandfather after her father was found guilty of theft. I liked the world that Braemel created on A new series that will follow the Grady brothers 3 who have had a somewhat difficult life, but have stuck together through it all. I liked the world that Braemel created on the ranch and am really intrigued to see what happens with the other brothers, especially Jake who seems to have something going on that he won't share with anyone.
The Grady's past is pretty riddled with a "keep a lid on it" family who don't want their dirty laundry aired out and would rather push it under the rug. By the end of this book, I wasn't really sure where anyone stood except Ben and Allie. Mar 22, JoAnne rated it really liked it Shelves: contemporary , romance , western , set-in-texas , canadian-author.
The Grady Legacy 1 I loved this book. Allie is a lawyer and she works for a title insurance agency in Houston. She has to go home to the ranch she and her father were thrown off of 15 years ago and help the owners save it. Someone has sold half of the ranch but the owners Ben and Jake Grady said they did not sell any of it. Allie has to figure out what is going on and save the ranch. She still has feelings for Ben who she loved when she was But she lost her scholarship when they lost their home on the ranch.
Ben emailed and wrote letters to Allie and never got an answer back. He never forgot her. Ben tries to work with Allie to find this supposed son of his grandfather's who sold the land to a former employee who was caught stealing. But he stills wants her and pursues her, not that it takes much because she wants him too.
Will they save the ranch and live happily ever after? This series opener has it all. From the hint of mystery to the almost erotic romance, this series is one to look out for. I loved the idea of a second chance relationship, especially if one of the parties are pissed. So this romance was right up my alley. The sex scenes are borderline erotic and I was quickly turning pages as I fanned myself.
I especially loved that the side characters were well developed and interesting. This reveiw is also posted here Nov 30, Babs rated it really liked it Shelves: romance , western , suspense. It took me awhile to get into the story as I didn't understand all the insurance claims and it made the story a bit complex, but once I understood what was going on with all the characters, I was totally invested. I really like that there are going to be two more books about the Grady men because I now have real feelings for these characters.
